About 148 workers of Maruti Suzuki India have been languishing in jail following the unfortunate incidents at Manesar plant in Haryana in July 2012. Since then several media reports and eminent activists have expressed their surprise and indignation at the imprisonment of such a large number of workers and the one-sided actions of the authorities ignoring the workers' viewpoint of the happenings in July 2012. Trade unions and family members have repeatedly emphasised that the voice of many innocent workers was never heard properly.
Many of these workers are ill and in very poor health conditions. Their families have suffered untold hardships during the last two years, to the extent of being denied the basic essentials of life. They also suffered great hardships in travelling long distances to meet their imprisoned family members from whom they had great hopes. Family members are very sad that for such a long time workers were even denied bail which is very rare.
There are many indications that a very serious injustice is taking place very near Parliament and media-centres of the country, and yet very little is being done or even discussed about it. These jailed workers and their family members need justice as well as help to survive the very difficult conditions to which they have been pushed by a highly unjust system.
