Pradyot Lal, a highly talented journalist who joined the profession in the 1980s, passed away at night on July 12, 2015. A product of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, Pradyot started his journalistic career in Patriot where he worked for several years before joining Blitz. Thereafter he worked in The Asian Age where he wrote some brilliant pieces at the time when M.J. Akbar was editing the publication. He then worked in Sahara Times and Tehelka. He was associated briefly with Mainstream as well.
During his student days at the JNU he was an activist of the All India Students Federation (AISF). He leaves behind a large band of friends and admirers. He is survived by his wife Manjula, also a well-known professional journalist, and son Sahil (who is married and has a son).
He had donated his body to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, but for some reason the hospital declined to accept it. He was cremated at night on July 13.
